Pamplin Media Group – All revved up: Portland International Auto Show returns

With two years of new vehicles, the Portland International Auto Show drives into the Convention Center Feb. 24

After taking last year off because of the pandemic, the Portland International Auto Show is back for 2022, taking place from Thursday, Feb. 24, to Sunday, Feb. 27, at the Oregon Convention Center.

Auto dealers and vehicle repair shops are among the highest employers in the Portland area and offer relatively high wages. The show has traditionally been the largest display of new vehicles in the Pacific Northwest. Now, with two years of releases to experience, there is more to see than ever.

Special sections on the show are scheduled for Pamplin Media Group newspapers before it opens. The newspapers also will include discount coupons offering $3 off adult admissions until 3 p.m. on Thursday and Friday.

The automobile industry is moving ahead rapidly, with entirely new products, concepts and technologies every year. Here are some highlights of this year’s show:

The base Maverick includes a hybrid engine that returns up to 42 MPG in city driving and starts at around $21,000.

New Car Giveaway: Everyone at the show has a chance to win a new 2021 Toyota RAV4 Prime plug-in hybrid by entering the drawing at the Pamplin Media Group booth.

North American Car of the Year: The 2022 Honda Civic won this prestigious award. The super-successful four-door or hatchback compact has been completely redesigned and starts at just $21,900.

Subaru will bring its all-new Solterra electric SUV, while Ford also will highlight the all-electric Mustang Mach-E GT, released in 2021, and the all-electric F-150 Lightning, which can power your house in an outage. Federal tax credits are available for most EVs and Oregon also offers rebates of up to $5,000, depending on household income.

Performance cars: Traditional muscle and sports cars also are continuing their resurgence with several of the newest models on display. They include both the hardtop and convertible versions of the latest Chevy Corvette, which is now a mid-engine sports car. Also appearing are completely redesigned versions of the mechanically similar Subaru BRZ and Toyota GR86. Nissan has released the much-anticipated latest version of its legendary Z sports car, which features retro styling.

Michigan International Automobile Exhibit returns to DeVos Area

The 24th annual Michigan International Automobile Display will be held Feb. 3-6 at DeVos Location at 303 Monroe Ave. NW in downtown Grand Rapids.

Gentex Company will return to the Michigan Worldwide Automobile Exhibit as its presenting sponsor. The Zeeland-dependent automotive tech organization strategies to unveil its latest develop in the automobile show’s featured grand gallery room: a greatly modified 2021 Chevrolet Silverado Path Box (2LT) with a 2021 Vorsheer Serious Overland Camper (XOC) in tow.

Gentex’s modified truck and camper mix manufactured its national debut in early November at Specialty Products Sector Association’s (SEMA) premier trade-only function, showcasing specialty products manufacturing shows, in Las Vegas.

The automotive technological innovation corporation was the presenting sponsor of the auto clearly show from 2018-20, and yet again in 2022. The auto demonstrate was canceled in 2021 due to COVID-19. 

“Gentex is thrilled to at the time once more sponsor the Michigan Intercontinental Automobile Present,” reported Craig Piersma, vice president of advertising and marketing and corporate communications for Gentex. “Automotive activities are little by little coming back again, and we glance ahead to demonstrating West Michigan our hottest tech, as well as an unbelievable, all-new, overland-themed truck and trailer construct that we recently unveiled in Las Vegas. We feel it will be one particular of the highlights of the clearly show.”

The featured Silverado is said to boast an “aggressive stance” from the addition of Fiberwerx carbon fiber fenders and bedsides, which are mounted to tailor made, Gentex-created 20-inch Brixton Cast rims. The truck also features custom Addictive Desert Models stealth fighter front and rear bumpers and is specific with solid carbon fiber accents, like hood applique, exterior and interior mirror case backs, and exhaust tips.

The camper attributes the exact same overland concept and matching wrap and includes heating and air conditioning, propane stove, sink, fridge/freezer and a rooftop tent. The XOC also contains a Gentex-intended trailer camera built-in into the spare tire cap, streaming dwell rear video to the truck’s electronic rearview mirror. Gentex also added an integrated kegerator with a reverse faucet, a base-filled dispensing technique, a custom whiskey bar and a 300-cigar humidor.

“The automobile display is a excellent opportunity for organizations like Gentex to showcase new items and systems that their teams have designed and brought to the automotive industries,” claimed Dawn Baker, exhibit supervisor, Michigan Worldwide Auto Show.  “West Michigan is producing strides in creativity, systems, progress and producing, and this region has drastically impacted the automotive marketplace. The 24th once-a-year Michigan International Auto Exhibit is hosted by the Grand Rapids New Vehicle Dealers Affiliation. The event is one particular of 14 purchaser expositions created by ShowSpan in Grand Rapids.

SEMA Ignited after-party returns as 2021 automotive trade show wraps up

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — It was the fourth and final day of SEMA 2021, and there was so much happening at the world’s premier automotive trade show.

The previous day, outdoor activations put attendees and our own 8 News Now Reporter Bianca Holman in a high-powered Ford Mustang or new Ford Broncos for the Hoonigan’s Burnyard experience.

Show attendees were able to cheer on experienced drivers as they drifted and did burnouts and donuts with their special guest in the passenger seat.

While it was an industry-only trade show, the general public was invited to enjoy SEMA Ignited on Friday, Nov. 5 after 3 p.m. in the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC) West Hall parking lot.

The annual after-party allowed the public to get a glimpse of the latest vehicles, automotive products, and experiences the industry professionals have enjoyed the past few days at the LVCC.

General admission for SEMA Ignited is $20. Children 12 and under are free. For more information visit their website.

Before the party though, the top 12 builders from SEMA’s Battle of the Builders competition examined each other’s vehicles and voted on the ultimate winner. That’s right, they know the work that goes into each build, so they judge each other.
